Janajuddho cadre killed in Kushtia 'shootout'


An outlawed party leader was killed in a ‘shootout’ between his cohorts and police at Khalishakundi village in Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia early Sunday.
The dead was identified as Ilias Hossain Mamun, 38, of Akobpur village in Gangni upazila in Meherpur district was a regional leader of Janajuddho, one of the factions Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML).
On information, a team from Detective Branch (DB) and Daulatpur police raided Khalishakundi village where Mamun and his associates were holding a meeting at about 4:00am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the outfit operatives opened fire forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Mamun was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee the scene.
Police recovered one LG, 2 bullets and four sharp weapons from the spot.
The body of Mamun was sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Mamun was accused in six cases, including four for murder, filed with Daulatpur Police Station in Kushtia and Gangni Police Station in Meherpur, police said.
